Sport Jujitsu and Mixed Martial Arts

Bring all of your skills together and hone them through sparring and sport.

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is the closest thing to an "anything goes" fight that is legal and sanctioned. It involves striking, grappling, and mixtures of the two. In order to prepare students for MMA, I first teach them Sport Jujitsu as a safer way to cultivate and practice the necessary skills. Sport Jujitsu is a combination of Kickboxing, clinch-fighting (Judo/Wrestling), and ground fighting (Jujitsu/Judo Newaza). Learning each element of a fight, and how to transition between each, sets the foundation for MMA (if the athlete wishes to take that route) but also serves as a great basis for self-defense. Sport Jujitsu competitions are also a fun way of testing yourself in a less-dangerous scenario, which is great for the majority of us who have no desire to risk our life.

If you were to learn Sport Jujitsu from me (Sport Jujitsu world champion), it would look something like this:

  • punching/kicking skills
  • clinch fighting skills/takedowns/takedown defense
  • groundfighting skills (pins, submissions, escapes, sweeps)
  • control in transitions between each stage of the fight
  • strikes that set up takedowns, takedown attempts that set up strikes

In the future, if the athlete wished to transition to MMA, an addition of:

  • cage control/wall wrestling
  • ground and pound skills
  • knee/elbow skills

This type of training is very detailed and will take a long time to become skilled, even with dedication. This is best done with a partner, so if you can find a buddy to join you that would be best.
